Sarah Lindsay Brown is a registered dietitian and mum to two little ones. Her passion for food, nutrition and health led her to study the subject at degree (Bsc Hons) and postgraduate level. Sarah believes that good nutrition and healthy eating are important right from the start of life, during pregnancy, weaning and beyond. Her belief is supported by a wealth of research to suggest that good nutrition and healthy eating in early life is critical to shaping eating habits and health in later life. In other words optimal nutrition during pregnancy and early life gives a baby the best start to life and may have lifelong positive effects on health.
Sarah has fourteen years of experience as a dietitian since training in the NHS. Her work has been varied but she has always had some focus on pregnancy, baby and toddler nutrition. Her roles have included working as a specialist infant dietitian in the baby food industry, during which time she gained a certificate in the dietetic management of allergic disease, and as a nutrition scientist for the dairy industry. Both these roles have involved writing and managing educational resources and websites on pregnancy, weaning and toddler diets, as well as providing support for consumers and training for members of teams. Over the last few years she has been practicing as a freelance dietitian specialising in early years nutrition.
Her time in industry gave her excellent experience in analysing research and converting it into clear, concise messages for the public and she developed a wealth of knowledge and love for early years nutrition. However during this time she missed working more directly with the public; as she loves engaging with people and can talk all day about all things weaning and child nutrition. She also had a strong desire to be more involved with helping little ones get off to a good start with eating and enjoying healthy food. What’s more she wanted to put all her knowledge of research and early years public health guidelines into practice. Having her first baby gave her to perfect opportunity for her to run some weaning workshops, she had a group of her own NCT friends all anxious and full of questions about weaning. With all her knowledge and love for the subject Sarah offered them a trial weaning workshop and it was such a success; the group really enjoyed it and found the session invaluable and so Teeny Weaning was born.
Sarah was involved in a pilot for Loughborough University's 'Child Feeding Guide' online training for healthcare professionals working with fussy eaters and it was this that led to her successful first fussy eating workshop.
Teeny Weaning provides trustworthy, up-to-date and balanced advice on early years nutrition including weaning, toddler nutrition, fussy eating, pregnancy nutrition and nutrition for new mums. Teeny Weaning offers group workshops and tailored individual advice (1-2-1) face to face in Beckenham and the surrounding areas of Kent/South East London (not at the moment due to covid-19) or via video consultation/webinar (contact me now if interested). Sarah is also a keen cook and has been since a very young age. She has a young family of her own and can really identify with how it feels to finish a days work and have to prepare another tea with a screaming children in the background.
Sarah is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) (governed by law) and is a member of the British Dietetic Association (BDA) and the BDA Freelance and BDA Paediatric specialist groups.
